Judgments

I've found it interesting how people make judgments about you--sometimes before they've even met you in person. In this brave new digital world, we meet people from all walks of life--some of whom we might never have decided to be friends with in the real world, but because we met them online and share some of the same interests, and they seem nice, we link up.

Some people I've known for years online and then had telephone conversations with them and they've said to me "You sound so young!"

Yes, it's true. I'm really just a 13 year old girl pretending to be a wife, mother and writer! Fooled you!

I'm not sure why they thought I should sound like Suzanne Pleshette after a five pack a day habit--but they do.

Others have said (with surprise) you sound Fun!. Um, yeah. I am fun. Hello? Humor Columnist, remember?

Some people I've judged to be my friends, when in fact they weren't and I've been hurt by them when I least expected it. Due to these experiences I'm probably a bit less trusting than I once was, especially in the business arena. There are always people jealous of your success, or your perceived success and willing to take a swing at you.

We are told not to judge, but we make judgments each day we walk on this planet. We judge whether something is of worth to us--do we see the R-rated movie full of violence and sex or do we fill our minds with something will lift us up rather then put our minds into the gutter?

Not all judgments are bad.

I'm grateful for the power of discernment where my children are concerned. I'm thankful for the inspiration given to me as a mother to make judgments for my little ones.
